We took a trip to Atlanta.

In fact, Dave had job with FLW doing the national bass fishing tournament thing. The grand prize is $500,000 and at the last minute, a new sponsor "threw in" an extra $100,000. For catching fish. $600,000 to catch the fatest fish.

Anyway, we decided this would be the perfect time to take a family trip, and to also see Megan. (I love you, Megs!). We left Sunday morning and drove first to Kentucky and then the rest of the way to Georgia. At some point, we stopped at a rest area and slept overnight.

But it was great and an experience of a lifetime. I will never forget going through Nashville at night, listening to Dave and Hallie discuss the city lights and see the airplanes landing/taking off. It was pretty special.

I didn't take many pictures. Hallie actually took more than I did. Can you tell which ones?

I think I took one from our vacation to the Ozarks, and one from our "vacation" to Atlanta. That's all. Not very good for a person who typically takes 18 million. I guess we were having too much fun!

Yikes, I only have 11 completed. Not good, Keri, not good. I think this week I will try to get some of the sewing things done - re-size my moo-moo, sew a quilt (hahahahahahaha), etc.

 

I'm making great progress on the pictures of Hallie, but I need to check my "stock" to make sure I'm not re-printing anything. The piano thing will never happen, but I'm not sure what I would change that to?

Suggestions?

 

We have the new windows for the house sitting in the garage, but I'm not checking that off of the list until they are installed, trim back on and the house is cleaned up.

In other news, I'm back to work today after having 10 days off from work. It was glorious and now it's not. But i'm trying to find the joy in my job - but it's tough. But Dave comes home tonight so YIPPEE! It feels like an eternity since he's been home. We will probably maul him when he walks in the door, but I need to remind myself that he will probably be super tired and a bit cranky. Or maybe that will just be me after my first work day.

 

Yuck.

Dear Dave, Part II on a Saturday,

We have had a busy day. We watched cartoons in bed for awhile and then started cleaning. Lots and lots of cleaning. Rather, I cleaned while Hallie followed, making messes. That's okay. We got a lot done.

After nap (hers, not mine - I watched HGTV and read a book. I also made chocolate turnovers with my puffed pastry, but you probably wouldn't like it - too chocolate-y. I think they are delicious.) I had the bright idea to take a bike ride to Lucille's.

It's not easy riding bikes in the country. We drove up to the shed to get your truck, drove it back to the house. I scraped my shoulder trying to load my bike (that was really hard!) and then threw hers in the back too. We drove back up to the shed, chatted with your dad and hopped on the bikes.

We made it to the end of the driveway and then Hallie fell off into the gravel. It was very traumatic. And bloody. But we rallied and actually made it to the first turn before she pooped out and wanted to go home.

So then.

I walked both bikes back to the shed, loaded them up and by the way they are still in the back of your truck. But I was so flippin' sweaty and just exhausted, so we went swimming.

And it was awesome.

And the whole time I just kept thinking how much easier it would be to bike ride with you!

Dear Dave,

I made a list of things to get done before you are home. Hopefully they will all be done, but you will probably be so tired you won't even notice.

But I will. I hate it when our house is messy/dirty. And right now it is both. Makes me stressed to look around.

1. Clean the bathrooms - toilets, baths/showers, floors, mirrors, countertops.

2. Take trash up to the dumpster. You know how you hate it when I fill our garage trash with bags and it stinks? Well, I did and it stinks.

3. Floors - vacuum and steam mop.

4. Dust - easy, I love to dust.

5. Wipe down kitchen cabinets.

6. Make and freeze breakfast burritos.

7. Weed garden - this will probably not happen.

8. Mow yard.

9. Put clothes away.

10. Take a nap - this one I can handle.

Stats.

Today was Hallie's four-year check up with Dr. Lillpop. He asked how her brother was and then got really embarrassed because he had the wrong family.

Anyway, our little lady weighs 31.4 pounds and is 40 inches tall. That is 50th percentile for her height (perfectly average) and 25th for her weight - skinny minny!

In other news, I'm exhausted. I have a cold and could probably sleep all day. Too bad our yard is overgrown, so is my garden. I sucked at weeding this last month, yes month, and everything is covered in weeds. Tall, mean weeds. I ripped up all of the onion weeds, but the rest will have to wait.

My floors are gross too, but those can wait. Everything can wait. I have two more days of home time, with minimal things planned. I can squeak in the cleaning, and hopefully can beg someone to watch Hal for a few hours while I mow and do yard work. Fun, fun.

Yesterday, I did four loads - washed, hung dry and put away in a basket. Today I will do the minimum until I feel better.

I miss Dave a lot.

Final Lesson.

Hallie's final swim lesson for the season was last night. She has taken 16 lessons and has loved 13.5 of them. She can now hold her breath for a crazy long time, climb a pole to the bottom of the pool, swim without a swim belt front crawl, swim on her back and all-around enjoy the water.

These swim lessons have been the best thing for her this summer, and we will certain continue them. I think they are so important for kids to take and continue to take! Especially when you live within a stone's throw to a pond. Important.

We will miss Nancy, who ended up being super nice and good with the kids - despite a very rocky start. I'm glad we stuck with it. Because we almost didn't. I mean, like, I really almost pulled her.

So i'm glad we didn't.

Why I Shouldn't Go to Auctions.

Apparently I can't back down. Hmm. I'm thinking this applies to most areas of my life.

Last night there was an auction held just down the street from my house. I thought it might be fun to take Hallie and just see what they had.

Things I am always looking for: vintage Pyrex or Fireking.

Things they had: vintage Pyrex.

They also had an antique's dealer who was after the same two gorgeous yellow and blue pyrex that I was. And I'm nothing if not competitive.

I won.

I also got a vintage Fisher Price Little People's Garage Thing for $1. One dollar!

Fail.

Doesn't Hallie look like she's working really hard?

The pie crust recipe was pretty easy, but not so easy to transfer to the baking dish. In fact, I basically pieced it together, cursing (inwardly) the entire time.

It tasted delish, especially after dusting the top lightly with cinnamon and sugar. YUM.

I love fresh peaches. I, however, do not love Crisco. GROSS. And good grief so much goes into a pie crust!! Who knew?!

Well Done, Devlins, Well Done.

You seem to have a knack for picking out the perfect dresses, Sarah. She put it on and refused to take it off.

The pink mailing package was a nice touch, too.

A Good Reminder.

It's days like today that I need a good reminder of just how good life can be.

The Grand Finale.

Everyone had left by the time Hallie woke up from her (much needed) nap. We had gobs of leftovers, so we invited a few friends over to eat and let the kiddos play.

It was the best part of the day.

My dad bought Hal a pool for her birthday, and it's just a perfect size. The girls donned matching swimsuits and floated, splashed and played for quite awhile. Not a single fit was thrown, even after more friends and kiddos showed up.

It's always a great evening when the kids don't fight, and the adults can visit. We have great friends.

Pressure.

When will I learn?

What will it do before I figure out that my daughter does not enjoy big crowds of people all focused on her?

Please do not let me forget, because the party was half of a disaster. There was a lot of crying, including the moment I turned the corner with candles lit, and everyone started to sing "Happy Birthday to you..."

WAAAAAH!!!

Not good.

However, the presents were much enjoyed. (do you see Dave's giant feet?)

It was still awesome seeing family.

And other than the Balloon Incident of 2010, Hallie and Kenz had a blast.

And Hallie loved the "pupcakes" with extra, extra sprinkles.

And in the end, that's all that matters.

 

Gonna Party Right Down to the Wiiiiiire!

At the bonfire Morgan County Fair!

Jacksonville surely knows how to put on a great county fair. And Craig Morgan puts on a great show - thanks to the fabulous sound equipment from Mason Sound - oh yeah, baby.

And that means Dave was in town for the whole weekend, just a few miles away! We were able to meet him on Saturday and ride some rides - okay, Dave and Hallie did most of the riding. The spinning ones make me puke anymore. They had a blast on the Tilt-O-Whirl, Scrambler and something else that spun.

I rode the dragon rollercoaster twice with the blonde and Grandma Bev braved the airplanes. It was a blast.

After a refreshingly airconditioned-meal at Pizza Hut, we dropped off The Grandma and headed to the concert that night.

Hallie was the belle of the ball and made friends with the crew. She even scored a guitar pick. I think I have a budding groupie on my hands. At one point during the show, he brought two tramps women up on stage and sang to them. Hallie wanted to go up there so badly, so Dave said she could when she was five.

Awesome.

Dear Dave,

We swam without you last night. Hallie had a blast saving "Emily" from the "mobster" (lobster) and splashing around. We miss you dearly, but do not miss how bad you smelled the other night.

After all, mommy is the rudiest, but you are certainly the tootiest.

Barely.

It was a long weekend. Very fun, but very long. I'm so glad I took Monday off to recover. It was a day of nothing, but ended up being very funny.
