Day number two was loooong, but fun. Dave played golf while I went on a volcano and valley tour with Mike and Barb. The volcano, Haleakala, erupts approximately every 200 years...and it's been 234 years since the last eruption...
Barb and I hiked up to the summit to glance into the crater. We had a ball taking goofy pictures. Anyway, the scenery was gorgeous at 10 thousand feet and the lunch was delicious at the something-something General Store (couldn't pronounce it). Funny story. We were starving. I mean, REALLY hungry. And the restaurant was set up family style for our entire tour group. So they had three dishes of food already set out on the tables, and a basket of bread. One dish had paella, another some roasted zucchini and eggplant and another had something else I can't remember. My dear mother-in-law took one look and said, "oh we have GOT to get a steak somewhere tonight." So we all dig in and stuff ourselves, because we are wasting away starving. And then they plop down a huge plateful of pasta. So we dig into that. And then they plop down a huge plateful of chicken stuff with spinach. So we dig into that too. And you'd think we would have learned our lesson, but as soon as Barb went to the restroom, they plopped down a huge plateful of brisket. And then dessert. So we were totally full.
After touring the volcano, the tour continued at Iow Valley (e-ow) that is GORGEOUS. It's green and lush and has beautiful streams and rocks to take pictures on. Barb and hiked up to a scenic viewing area to take pictures of the "needle" which is actually where the lava used to come out of the volcano. The rest of the volcano has eroded. Erroded?
It was a beautiful, scenic day, but I was glad to be back to Dave! He had a wonderful time, by the way, and ended up spending a ridiculous amount of money on two sleeves of golf balls. Ridiculous. Oh well. The night we went to a luau where we had salty pork and lots and lots of other food...and drinks too.
