do you swaddle?

boy, do we swaddle. we straight-jacket up in here.

hallie loved to be swaddled. henry loves to be swaddled. i would have a nervous breakdown if someone tried to swaddle me (claustrophobic).

it helps them sleep and i am game for whatever will help them sleep. oh how i love to sleep. i am lucky that henry only gets up twice a night.

funny story - last night hallie woke up when i had just finished putting henry back to sleep after first feeding. she was totally walking in her sleep. she told me that henry spit up all over her bed. when i walked her back to her room she walked in circles a few times before getting back in bed. then she pulled back a pillow pet and then looked at me and said - oh mom, i think that i was dreaming.

it was all i could do not to crack up laughing.

it was really hot. not as hot as it is now, but still hot.

and about 10 seconds after this picture i nursed henry. in the food pavilion.

there was lots of sweating.

i'm a fan of nursing in public. i mean, i'd rather be nursing at home, in my ugly green chair, with air conditioning, but still. i have no problems nursing in public. much to my grandma's dismay.

 oh that damn dora. hallie just had to have one after jamie won one the night before for olivia at some rip-off $5 game. i refused to pay that much for hallie to have something else to love for one day. she threw a major fit and got her papapa to pony up the money the next day.

Last Night Sucked.

What happened?! Where did my excellent sleeper go? Oh, how I hope this is a growth spurt or some other temporary condition that will GO AWAY.

Henry went from waking once a night to waking three or FOUR a night. What's that all about?? I am quite outraged.

Last night was the worst. I moved him to his crib. He woke up at 12:15 - like the last few days, no biggie. Then he was up at 2am - wait, that is not like the last few days. And then up again at 5:30 and then up for good at 6:30.

And let me be clear that he was not really asleep between 12:15am and 2am. He nursed like a barracuda until about 1:15 and then fussed on and off until I fed him again at 2am. My poor boobs.

He's napping now (in his crib) which means we are off for the rest of the day. I HAD PLANS TODAY!!!!!!!!!

Such is life with a newborn.

Fast As Lightning!

Whew - I haven't had much of a chance to blog. My internet connection has been in and out and it seems like when it's "in," the little mister is awake.

And smiling.

Always smiling.

These pictures crack me up. He's such a good, content baby. He loves to lay against a good pair of knees and be talked to. He just smiles and smiles when you talk to him. A few coos are starting to slip out and are the most precious thing I've ever heard.

Now, if this kid would start napping better he'd be the best baby that ever was. As it is, he loves to take teeny catnaps throughout the day. In my arms, the swing, bouncy chair...basically anywhere but his bassinet.

I'm trying something different this very moment. I moved him into his crib, swaddled him and turned on the fan. It's darker in his room and i'm hoping that plus being swaddled will be the trick. I'm going to start him in his crib overnight tonight too. Wish me luck!

My First Baby is Five.

How did this happen? My tiny little baby girl is now five years old?

Happy Birthday, Miss Hallie. You are a beautiful, wild, sensitive little girl. You are very, very, VERY loved and love lots in return.

Our New Additions.

Having a newborn just isn't enough. We decided to add a couple of kittens to our family. The names are Blackie and Lucky. I'm a bit bummed about the names. They were originally Julianna and Seraphina. Straight from Barbie movies. Loved them. And then Hallie came up with Blackie. And Lucky. Random and not cute.

The kitties are super cute though!

Quick, Before Henry Wakes Up.

Yesterday was a pretty great day. We had his newborn pictures taken - and I think we got some good ones! He's already over three-weeks-old, so he's not as "pose-able" as he would have been had I gotten my act together and done them earlier. But we definitely got some good shots before he woke up and declared NO MORE.

We also ventured out to friends' house for supper and had a blast. The kiddos always play so well together and so do the mommies and daddies :) Henry was really great the entire time and despite some charbroiled burgers, the night was a success (kidding, Jess). We are very grateful to have such good friends.

We hosted a starving musician at our house late that night too. Sara Swenson (saraswenson.com) played a show in Springfield and crashed at our pad. We had a lovely visit this morning and she hooked us up with two CDs! We already listened to one and we are in love with her voice! Check her out for sure. Love that girl.

Whew - I feel like I'm typing as fast as I can go to try to get some words down and not just pictures!

Henry went down after we got home last night - about 9:30. And slept until I WOKE HIM UP at 3:30am. I wouldn't have done that but there was a chance my boobs were going to explode. Oh I am not kidding. Ouch. And then he slept in until 7:30! So Mama got some good sleep!
